Join us for an evening of soulful and experimental composition and improvisation with Ruby Mountain and special guest Puzzle.

Ruby Mountain is a solo project of Artist-in-Residence Krystle Ahmadyar. On this night, she will be mixing vocals, field recordings from Afghanistan, found sounds, and electronic noise creating new works-in-progress in collaboration with Puzzle (Alex Abalos).

 

RUBY MOUNTAIN with PUZZLE

Ruby Mountain is a sonic neo-soul electronic folk music project. Composer and Studio Grand Artist-in-Residence, Krystle Ahmadyar, draws from her Afghan musical heritage, jazz vocal training, and experimental electronic music roots to create soulful songs of love, oppression and resistance. This show will also include compositions made with field recordings Krystle did while visiting Afghanistan in April 2015. The evening will be a multimedia musical performance in collaboration with Puzzle (Alex Abalos).

 

Alex Abalos is a bay area based musician that has been releasing music and DIY instruments under the moniker Puzzle/Pu22L3. Over the last 15 years he has contributed to various sound arts ranging from sound instillations in various art galleries (1am sf, Arc Studios sf, Bindstiff studios, etc), to sound system culture (along side the 5lowershop collective), to education (with at risk youth in Tenderloin neighborhood of SF) to personal music projects ranging from free jazz (with the edomites) up into electro acoustic compositions (with secret sidewalk).
