Alejandro y Maria Laura
Peruvian singer/songwriters Alejandro Rivas and María Laura Bustamante released their first LP “Paracaídas” in 2011, which was produced by Matías Cella (who has produced records by academy award winner Jorge Drexler and Kevin Johansen). In 2012, they earned the “Canteras” award for the song “Jaula” and the Innovation award in the “V Festival Claro” in Lima, Perú. In 2013 they released their second LP, which includes guest vocals by Susana Baca, Kevin Johansen and Javier Barría. Alejandro y Maria Laura were invited earlier this year to participate in the acclaimed HBO special “Encuentros en Brasil”. They performed Brazil-themed songs along international artists like Jorge Drexler, Natalia Lafourcade, Andrea Echeverri, and others.
Edna Vazquez s a Portland-based Mexican singer-songwriter who performs original compositions that pay homage to her many Latin American influences with a passion that comes through in every note of her music. From Mexican folk to nueva trova, Rock en Español and Mariachi, Edna’s live performances lift the audience’s spirit and take them on a musical journey through the rhythms of Latin America. Her songs are deeply rooted in human emotion and Edna has traveled far and wide spreading her message of light, love and cultural healing.
Edna is currently touring in support of her most recent release, Ser Abstracto,hich features 11 original compositions arranged with a traditional string band, spanning a variety of musical styles, from trova to tango. The album features Edna on guitar and vocals, Edgar Baltazar on classical guitar, Adrianna Locke on violin, and Bernardo Gomez on upright bass.
Born the Mexican state of Colimut was raised in Jalisco, Edna was surrounded with the soul of Mariachi music from a young age. As a teenager music found Edna and she began the lifelong process of finding her voice. Inspired by these roots, Edna has spent the last two decades performing with Mariachi, No Passengers and as a solo artist in spaces as diverse as a Quinceanera celebration, the Fillmore in San Francisco and music festivals. In that time, she has achieved international exposure by singing on television shows like Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento in Los Angeles, California and Sábado Gigante Internacional con Don Francisco, where she won first prize with her rendition of Cucurrucucú Paloma accompanied by Mariachi Internacional in Miami, Florida.
