Join us for Studio Grand's Balkan Night, an evening of which features (not-so-strictly) Eastern European music. This series occurs on the third Friday of the month, so mark your calendar! The night is graciously curated by Kent Kessinger in association with Studio Grand. Come join us for an evening of dancing and celebrating with Bay Area treasure La Pêche!
o have "La Pêche" is French for being in a particularly good mood and great form ; and that's what the quintet immediately conveys with their furiously fun blend of Balkan-inspired melodies. Combining a solid foot in traditional musics from Romania to Turkey with funkier grooves and heavy bass lines, the band has created a highly unique and energetic sound.
After the release of their Soundtrack to the 1904 movie "Journey Through The Impossible", composed and recorded in collaboration with emmy winning composer Dan Cantrell, the group embarked to a month long tour through the Balkans, where they were featured on National Bulgarian Radio and studied with local masters musicians.
They brought back an even greater passion for traditional sounds, especially towards the very upbeat and melodically rich Romanian music. Yet their extensive knowledge of musics from the Balkans, Turkey and the Jewish tradition, allied with a strong artistic sense of composition make them one of the most versatile group available today. Be it at a concert, wedding party or on a street corner in the mission district, their performances are always an irresistible call to dance, and a dazzling feast for the ears!
