Join us in celebration for the book launch of Split, a collection of poetry by Denise Benavides published by Kórima Press.
Denise Benavides is an Oakland based queer xicana performance artist, poet, and radical educator sharing her work with urgency—using the stage/page to confront themes of xenophobia, relocation, sexuality, religion, and love. Always, love.
She writes to document, to archive, and to hold space for what has been lost—most of all, she writes for the women in her family.
She holds an MFA in Creative Writing and a Bachelor’s of Arts in English from Mills College. Her debut collection of poetry, Split, was released in the fall of 2016 by Kórima Press.
