Please join us for an evening of Brazilian and jazz guitar music by two masters of the genres
Originally from Rio de Janeiro and based in the Bay Area, guitarist/composer Ricardo Peixoto is among the top representatives of Brazilian guitar in the US today. His fluid melodic style and keen compositional sense explore Brazil’s rich and diverse traditions, both in his original work as well as in arrangements of Brazilian classics. His approach is grounded both in the jazz and Brazilian music traditions, but always ventures well beyond their borders, combining rich melodies and sophisticated harmonies with the unmistakable rhythms of Brazil.
His recording and performance credits include Claudia Villela, Flora Purim and Airto, Bud Shank, Dom Um Romão, Sivuca, Claudio Roditi, Raul de Souza, Toots Thielemans, Dori Caymmi, Guinga, Paul McCandless, Duo Violão Brasil, Jovino Santos Neto and Terra Sul among many others. He has performed throughout the US, Europe, Canada, Japan and Brazil.
John Stowell began his successful career with private study with guitarist Linc Chamberland and pianist John Mehegan. His duo with bassist David Friesen recorded and toured prolifically for many years, with performances in the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia. With flutist Paul Horn, John participated in a historic tour of the Soviet Union, the first time in forty years that an American jazz group had been invited to play public performances in Russia.
John continues to tour, record and teach internationally. He has been Artist-In-Residence at schools in Germany, Indonesia, Argentina, and in the United States and Canada. Johh has many CDs recorded under his own name and has recorded/performed with a long list of jazz greats, including Milt Jackson, Lionel Hampton, Art Farmer, Conte Condoli, Herb Ellis, Bill Watrous, Mundell Lowe, George Cables, Billy Higgins, Billy Hart, Richie Cole, Paul Horn, Tom Harrrell, Don Thompson, Dave Liebman, and many others.
