A monthly series curated by RDL+, Bay Area Bridges celebrates the Bay Area music scene with Oakland as its launch pad. This month we bring back the drums! And with several new rhythmically-driven compositions on hand, there is no better captain than Michael Pinkham to lead us on another adventure through the sonic universe. Blast off!

Michael Pinkham has been a working bay area drummer since the early 90's (1st gig @ Berkeley Square yo!). He has played, recorded and toured nationally and internationally with many artists including: Peter Rowan's Big Twang Theory, Linda Tillery, the Oakland Symphony, Oakland Interfaith gospel Choir, Matt Montgomery & the Petty Troubles Orchestra, The San Francisco Mime Troupe, Samba do Coracao, Diego's Umbrella, Albino!, New Monsoon and many others. Michael currently holds the drum Chair with the Circus Bella All-Star Band (10years!), the bay area's old-world soul group Kugelplex, can be found rocking out with Physical Suicide Deterrent System Project (PSDSP), This Old Earthquake and the Lost at Home Drumline.

With their 2014 debut album, Más P’alla Va, RDL+ is building an original sound that embodies the members’ collective ideas, inspirations, and histories. RDL+ is Ruthie Dineen on keys, Doug Lee on bass, Luis Salcedo on guitar, plus(+) the Bay Area's best up-and-coming musicians. The group focuses on writing and playing original compositions, while taking both lyrical and open improvisations on the pieces. While maintaining an aesthetic stemming from traditional jazz, the group experiments with odd meters, timbre, form, and melodic ideas.  Nonetheless, the exploratory nature of the group is always rooted in the essence of the composed or arranged pieces.
