In Too Deep is a monthly series (every second Saturday) curated by electronic music duo Josh Casey & Yari Bundy -- a.k.a. KYN -- in association with Studio Grand. Incorporating Bay Area experimental traditions and the sounds of Berlin’s underground dance scene, In Too Deep seeks to create a space for those left wanting more from the current sound of commercialized electronic music, and to present an audiovisual landscape incorporating rhythm, noise, and atmosphere. Expect live electronic music that moves you physically and spiritually. In an effort to create a truly immersive experience, each performance will be accompanied by live visuals from some of our favorite local artists.
This month: An all-womxn audio and visual lineup! As always, curated by KYN who cede the stage for this edition.
Experimental Housewife (live)
Experimental Housewife is exactly what you'd think: an experimental DJ and producer. With an impeccable taste in house, deep house, and techno classics, ExHouse often slices through all genres with her hard techno and noise side. Also a drummer and professor, ExHouse is moreover a longstanding collector -- and selector -- of electronic music. Her sets are bizarre treats replete with force and nostalgic layers. Whether you're in for a gnarly set or something eclectic and narrational, you can always sense her percussionist mind, academic technique, and house music heart.
Adra (real name Alandria Sheffer) hails from the Mission district of San Francisco. Originally from Nevada, 8 years ago she made her way westward in pursuit of artistic inspiration and hasn't looked back since. Heavily informed by the sounds of her youth, she constructs refreshingly simple yet eloquent excursions with her modest hardware setup. That is to say, mechanized techno inspired by the likes of Nitzer Ebb, Kraftwerk and of course the master himself, Jeff Mills.
Kim Nucci (visuals)
Kim Nucci is an Oakland-based multimedia artist/composer and improviser. She plays woodwinds and various homemade circuit and acoustic instruments. She likes making big things and very tiny things. Kim claims to be the Pope of facebook and worships dollar slice pizza as the one true god, while living in the god(pizza)less land of California.
